Dover is swapping doorsteps for decorated trunks this Halloween at the town’s annual Trunk-or-Treat, a tradition in town for more than 20 years. The event will run from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at Crescent Field Parking Lot B, with entry from Orchard Street.
Mayor James P. Dodd and the town council invite residents to join the celebration, which will feature decorated vehicles, candy giveaways, and prizes for the Best Costume and Best Trunk Decoration categories.
Participants can begin setting up their vehicles at noon. A children’s costume contest for infants through eighth-graders will kick off at 1:30 p.m., followed immediately by trunk-or-treating.
The event is free and open to the public. Residents who wish to participate with a vehicle are asked to register in advance, decorate their trunks, and bring sealed, individually wrapped candy for approximately 400 children. Vehicles must remain in place until the event concludes at 4 p.m.
In case of rain, the celebration will be rescheduled for Saturday, Oct. 25.
