Daniella Mendez, who will represent residents of Dover's First Ward as a member of Town Council when she is sworn in on January 1, 2026, is working with local businesses to set up donation spots for non-perishable foods. If you can help, please consider donating what you can to support your neighbors in need during these challenging times. DOVERNOW.com caught up with Mendez to ask her about the effort with local businesses, such as The Good Bean, Dover Scoops, and Factory Records:

Are you spearheading this? Who else are you working with?

Yes, I’m leading this food drive as the Ward 1 Council Member–Elect, and I’m proud to be partnering with three incredible local businesses, The Good Bean, Dover Scoops, and Factory Records. Each of them immediately stepped up to host donation bins and support our community. This effort reflects what makes Dover special: neighbors and small businesses coming together to care for one another.

What prompted you to act?

So many families in Dover continue to face food insecurity, especially during the winter months. As someone committed to building a stronger, more responsive Dover, I wanted to use this moment to bring our community together in a concrete way. This drive is about showing that Dover shows up for Dover.

Are there other ways people can give back?

Absolutely. Beyond donating non-perishable items, residents can volunteer with our local faith kitchen, support community organizations doing outreach, or simply check in on neighbors who may need a little extra help this season. Even small acts of kindness, sharing information, giving your time, or offering support, make a real difference.

Where do the products they provide go?

All donations will go directly to Dover’s Faith Kitchen and our local churches, which distribute food to residents facing hardship. These organizations have long been pillars of support in Dover, and every item collected helps them continue serving families with dignity and care.
