County College of Morris’ Longo Planetarium launches its fall season Friday, Sept. 26, with a lineup of shows that let audiences explore the universe from New Jersey. Programs range from interactive tours of the night sky to cosmic detective stories that track stars, comets, and other celestial phenomena.

  • Cosmic Colors, a 45-minute show for ages eight and up, will explore the electromagnetic spectrum. Viewers will learn why the sky is blue, Mars glows red, and how light travels through a leaf and the human eye before venturing into the invisible universe of X-rays and black holes. Showtimes are selected Fridays at 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 2 p.m.

  • Messengers of Time and Space will offer a 45-minute show for ages 10 and up that explores how astronomers track events in the universe, from supernovas to pulsating stars and comets. Attendees will learn how instruments like the Gemini Observatories and Rubin Observatory detect these phenomena and how cosmic rays, neutrinos, and gravitational waves carry information across space. Shows are scheduled for select Fridays at 9 p.m. and Saturdays at 3:30 p.m.

  • Starlit Nights will provide a live guided tour of the night sky for ages eight and up. Using the planetarium’s Digistar 7 system, an astronomer will point out constellations, star clusters, nebulae, and Saturn, bright in the fall sky. The 45-minute show runs select Saturdays at 5 p.m. starting Sept. 27.

General admission for all shows will be $10. Whether you’re a budding astronomer or simply seeking an evening of intergalactic wonder, CCM’s Longo Planetarium will offer a front-row seat to the cosmos.

The Longo Planetarium is in Cohen Hall, room 207, at CCM, 214 Center Grove Road in Randolph. Visitors can park in Lot 7 and follow campus signs to the building. For showtimes, ticket info, and additional details, visit CCM Longo Planetarium
