Session to decide fate of Police and Fire departments changed from Sept. 23 to Sept. 29

The next Dover Town Council meeting, at which the council is expected to vote on the controversial effort to reshape the Dover Police and Fire departments, has been moved from Tuesday, Sept.23, to Monday, Sept. 30.
On Sept. 9, Mayor James P. Dodd and the town council gave the first public reading of Ordinance 30-2025, which would consolidate the two departments under the Department of Public Safety. A civilian Director of Public Safety would oversee the new department. The reorganization would demote Dover Police Chief Jonathan Delaney and Dover Fire Chief Paul McDougall. The council approved the ordinance, 6-3, during the meeting, which featured contentious back-and-forth by residents and council members.
