Teen Struck, Killed by NJTransit Train

The investigation into the accident along Richboyton Road continues.

A Dover teen was struck and killed Thursday evening along Richboyton Road by an eastbound NJTransit train, according to NJTransit and law-enforcement officials.
NJ Transit Police is the primary investigator on the case.
NJTransit released this statement:
At approximately 6:20 p.m. on Thursday, Morris & Essex Line train 858, which departed Mt. Olive at 5:56 p.m. and was due to arrive at Hoboken at 7:36 p.m., fatally struck an adult male trespasser between the Mt. Arlington and Dover stations. There were no injuries reported to the one customer and the crew on board. New Jersey Transit police are leading the investigation.
The Dover Police Department and Morris County Prosecutors' Office assisted with the initial response and investigation.
Dover schools were notified and will have grief counselors and support services available to help students cope with the news.

National Alliance for Children’s Grief: A network of organizations dedicated to supporting grieving children and families through education, resources, and community-based programs.
"On behalf of the town of Dover, I extend my deepest condolences to the family that has suffered the tragic loss of their son," Mayor James P. Dodd said. "This heartbreaking incident has impacted our entire community. We ask everyone to keep the family in their thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time. Please know that you are not alone. Our community stands with you in support, compassion, and respect."
