I grew up in Dover and certain staples instantly make it feel like summer. I hope my list will inspire you to get outside, explore, and appreciate the simple pleasures of our hometown. Share yours with me on IG: @christineelliza!

1. Burgers at The Dover Grill

You know summer has arrived when The Dover Grill reopens. Get the original burger with everything on it and some crinkle-cut fries; you won’t regret it.

2. Free Outdoor Movies at JFK Park

Starting June 26, bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy a movie under the stars. It’s a

free event that happens a few times each summer. Check the official Dover Township website for more info.

3. Hike at Hedden Park

Trails at this little hidden gem range from quick 20-minute walks to longer hikes. The green trail

is my go-to. I love its small waterfalls.

4. Watch a FIFA World Cup Game at a Local Spot

Dover loves soccer, and game days prove it! With New Jersey hosting this year, head

somewhere like ONE11 Bar & Kitchen for a game, good food, drinks, and a lively crowd. (Get the steak tostones with guac.)

5. Ice Cream Taste Test

Dover Dairy or Dover Scoops & Brews? Why choose? Try both! Make it a mini taste test and pick your favorite.

6. Go to a Listening Party at Factory Records

I just discovered this record store two years ago, and I can’t believe no one told me about it. They host open mics and listening parties, which are perfect for all the big album drops coming this summer, like Ariana Grande’s Petal in July.

7. Dover Community Garage Sale

If you’ve been trying to get rid of that old lamp you’ve had for years, this would be the day to do

it, or if you want to go treasure hunting, mark June 13 on your calendar! Check the town

website if you want to participate.

8. Read at Hurd Park

Find a shady spot by the creek and unwind with a good book. It’s peaceful, scenic, and one of

the best ways to slow down. P.S. They recently added a small parking lot nearby, which will lower your blood pressure, too.

9. Frog Falls Water Park

Google says this water park is located in Dover, but it’s actually inside Picatinny Arsenal. It’s open to the public for select themed events like last year’s “Lilo & Stitch” day. Just

remember to bring proper government ID.

10. Fly a Kite at Crescent Field

On those extra windy days, skip the beach and head here. The wide open field is perfect for

flying kites and a picnic afterward.

11. The Largest Carnival in Morris County (August 26–30)

This year’s four-day festival in Dover is shaping up to be the event of the season! You can expect food trucks, activities, and a great community vibe.

12. Vintage Shopping at Berry Marketplace

Tucked inside a brick commercial building, this spot is easy to miss but full of unique finds, from

trinkets to large furniture pieces.

13. Watch the July Fourth Fireworks at East Dover

I’ve been coming to see the fireworks here since I was a kid, and trust me, if you want a good view, come early to line up along Route 46. If you can, just walk over, because the traffic and parking get crazy.

14. Try Something New at Dover Sportsplex

They’ve got leagues for basketball, volleyball, and soccer. And yes, get a hot dog upstairs if the food truck is open.

15. Pottery at the New Richards Building

Channel your inner artist and get your hands dirty! Pottery classes are now offered at The Amp, the basement arts space. No experience necessary; who knows, you might leave with a new hobby and something cute for your room.
