Christine’s Corner: New Year, New You

By Christine Perez (IG:@christineelliza) There’s something about January that brings a renewed sense of possibility, like anything is possible. That’s why it felt like the perfect theme for the first Christine’s Corner of the year: New Year, New You.

And what better way to kick things off than by spotlighting local spots right here in town that inspire growth and a little joy.

iCanBootcamp: From Crescent Park to Community Staple

My Saturdays usually start with a workout, and my go-to spot is iCanBootcamp on

Route 46. What makes iCanBootcamp so special isn’t just the workouts; it’s the story behind it. The boot camp was founded by Dario Luna, a Dover native who attended school here from elementary school all the way through high school. He was athletic in his younger years, but life eventually got busy, as it does for many of us. One night, while watching The Biggest Loser with his daughter, she challenged him to do 10 pushups. He got a wake-up call when he couldn’t get past the first one.

While working a full-time job, Luna started iCanBootcamp as a passion project. Some of you may recall seeing a small group of people working out on the basketball courts at Crescent Park about 12 years ago. That was the beginning. It was just friends and family at first. “None of them were paying,” he admits. But as people began to notice real results, including Luna’s physical transformation, interest quickly grew.

Eventually, the workouts moved into his two-car garage, which he transformed with turf and equipment. When a neighbor’s complaint pushed him to think bigger, he took it as a

sign. As Luna humbly puts it, “Everything happens for a reason.”

That moment led him to search for a permanent space and eventually land where iCanBootcamp is today.

Now, more than a decade later, iCanBootcamp is Luna’s full-time career, and he has helped countless people from Dover and surrounding towns on their wellness journeys, including me. I can personally say these classes, which consist of cardio and weight training, are the perfect way to feel the burn and reset your mind.

Boot camp and kickboxing classes, which cost $15, are held weekly. Visit @icanbootcamp on Instagram for schedules, updates, and a look at the community behind the workouts.

La Jugosa: A Bright New Treat in Town

My next highlight is a newer addition to town that has already become a favorite of mine. La Jugosa, located right across from Dover Town Hall, opened just weeks ago and has quickly become my go-to for a sweet treat after a workout or whenever I’m craving something refreshing.

The second you walk in, you’re greeted with bright colors, from the walls and decor to the fresh ingredients. It truly feels like a mini tropical escape right here in Dover.

The menu features smoothies and açaí bowls, making it the perfect spot to treat yourself while still keeping things fresh and light.

If your “New You” includes supporting local businesses and discovering healthier treats, this spot is definitely worth checking out.
