Sometimes you have to stop and smell the flowers. Now, thanks to 14 students from Dover College Promise (DCP), local passersby can do exactly that.
The students built and installed planters on the Rockaway River bridge between N. Sussex and N. Warren Streets by Town Hall. Then they filled them with an assortment of white and pink petunias to brighten everyone’s walk.
Ed Lopez, DCP program director, credited County College of Morris (CCM), Alexander’s Landscaping & Tree Service, Cutters Tree Service Inc., and the Dover Department of Public Works for supporting the project.
“People were inspired by it,” Lopez says. “More companies asked to get involved. There are seven or eight more bridges, so there’s more work to do.”
A grant-funded educational partnership between CCM, The Transitional Educational Center (TEC) Inc., and the Dover School District, Dover College Promise offers motivated low-income middle and high school students the opportunity to secure a path to college.
